My interpretation of the woman who angered Athena by boasting of being superior at weaving. Blinded by pride, Arachne challenged the goddess to a weaving competition. When Athena was certain to prove better at the loom, Arachne was so shamed that she tied a rope around her neck and attempted to hang herself. "Hang yourself all you like,' said Athena, "you will never die from it, nor will your children, nor the children of your children. You will suffer for your insolent folly all your life." At that Arachne was transformed into a spider, destined to spin her gossamer threads for the rest of her days.
I like the representation of the spider theme in this image. The motif as opposed to her being all or part spider is an interesting approach and a bit of a breath of fresh air from all of the "eight limbed human" versions of her. I really love all the details and think that you did a beautiful job with this piece.
^_^ You're welcome. I'm trying to get out of the habit of doing huge favorite sprees and actually writing comments. After all, I know that I feel really good when people tell me what they like about my work, so it was about time I start sharing that wonderful feeling.
It really is a beautiful piece and you're welcome again. *bows*

Is that Athena in the top right corner?
Hehe, well I did almost missed her ^^ I like the way you added her in, but really subtly.
Good luck in the contest!
