Lionfish Mermaid by zepheenia Lionfish Mermaid by zepheenia
I drew a lionfish mermaid a while back (she can be found in my scraps) and at that time, i thought she was so well drawn, but i looked at her now and thought....hmmm that kinda sucks. So i decided to redo her. I'm not really satisfied with her human part, but i am quite happy with the lionfish section....it'd be great for you to go take a look at the old one, see the difference.

I had to scan her in 2 parts, and it wouldn't join smoothly.....grrrr

I think a lionfish is an interesting fish to base a mermaid on. Both are beautiful, yet deadly (lionfish have poisonous spines, after all).

Great picture!

lt seems these Kanakys was sacrificin' heaps o' their young men an' maidens to some kind o' god-things that lived under the sea, an' gittin' all kinds o' favour in return. They met the things on the little islet with the queer ruins, an' it seems them awful picters o' frog-fish monsters was supposed to be picters o' these things. Mebbe they was the kind o' critters as got all the mermaid stories an' sech started.

Our history can be tracted back to ancient Babylon and Sumaria when our first initiates met the shape shifting marine creature Oannes when he emerged from the ocean and transmited his stellar gnosis to them. Oannes was called Lord of the Waves, by the Babylonians, and was said to be amphibious, that is having the torso and head of a man with his bottom half resembling that of a fish, complete with scales. Some texts suggest he lived at the bottom of the Apsu or Abyss in fresh water. It has also been said that he was the same entity as Enki or Ea. He is given credit by the Sumerians for giving civilization to man. The Philistines called him Dagon. Dagon is sometimes identified with Matsya, the fish avatar of Visnu.

Your mermaids are some of the most exotic I've seen! You have quite the imagination....and I hope you keep applying it to aquatic fantasies!! I like this one a lot because you've added webbing between her fingers. All your other mermaids are so exotic, but a lot of them lack this feature. I hope you add the webbing to more of your mermaids!!
